Acupuncture

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the placement of sterile acupuncture needles in designated acupuncture points. These needles are retained for 10-20 minutes. They affect the local tissue through chemical and neurological changes they implement, thereby reducing local pain and inflammation. On a larger scale, these needles affect the Chinese energy meridians (or channels) upon which they are inserted and also the deeper organs associated with those meridians. For instance, lung channel acupuncture points affect the lung organ and alleviates symptoms such as coughing and asthma.

Most animals tolerate acupuncture very well and find it relaxing. Some actually look forward to additional treatments! The average number of acupuncture treatments depends on the condition being treated and the patient's response to treatment.
The PBS show called 'Animal Attractions' featured veterinary acupuncture with Dr. Jenna Castner Hauck. This aired nationally and explains in great detail what you can expect with acupuncture for your cats, dogs and even horses!
